Dad and Cam on the Jetski

On Sunday afternoon, Cam and I went exploring on the jetski. After looking at the islets off Tomhegan Point and circumnavigating Farm Island, we went over to Pebble Beach on the back side of Mount Kineo and spent an hour swimming and trying to find the cleanest piece of quartz to bring home.

Ian as Buzz Lightyear

Later Sunday morning, Grampa and I went four-wheeling with Tom. Before we left, Ian got to try on a helmet.

Moose on the Road to Greenville

On Sunday morning, we all got up early and drove down to Greenville for breakfast at Kelly's Landing. Before we got out of Rockwood we'd already seen one moose (ran too fast to get a pic), and on the highway down to Greenville we spotted these two young bulls foraging in the ditch just feet from the road.

Watching the Katahdin

Cam, Ian, and their new friend Emily (on vacation from Massachusetts) watch the Katahdin head south down the lake, back to Greenville.

Boys on the Bridge of the Katahdin

On Saturday, Grampa and I took Cam and Ian into Rockwood, where the Bike & Boat 2010 fund-raiser for a little local hospital and nursing home was finishing. They got to visit the bridge of the Katahdin, a restored 1914 steamboat the was the last to haul log booms down the lake.

Cam Reads at Camp

Cam was reading here mostly to Ian, but Lucy seemed to enjoy it too.

Mom and the Boys on Farm Island

While all three boys enjoyed throwing stones into the lake and watching them splash (or skip and then splash), Joanna enjoyed just lying on the towel and sunning herself.

Cam and Dad Snorkeling

On Friday, Joanna and I took the boys on Grammie and Grampa's jetski across Moosehead to Farm Island, a large, uninhabited island in the middle of the lake. There are a couple of public picnic/camping spots on the east side, one of which we spent an hour or two at, swimming, skipping stones, and sunning ourselves.

The Birches is a little resort just down the shore from Grammie and Grampa's camp.

Mom and the Boys at Camp

This is the back yard, though Cam insists it is the front yard — it is faced by the door we go through most frequently when we get there. Regardless, it is the side of camp away from the lake and toward the road.

Stand-off: Lucy and Finnegan

Tom and Chris have a new lab puppy, Finnegan, who loves going after Lucy. Inside, he can corner her and gnaw on her tail, but outside, she is way too fast for him and taunts him. All told, they seem to get along quite well.

Walking Lucy at Moosehead

We spent nearly a week at Moosehead, 22-28 June. While there was some sun, there was also plenty of gray like this.

Cam Walks Lucy

Grampa has made a nice dog-walking track of wood chips up to the back workshop and beyond. Cam likes to take Lucy in the mornings, and Lucy seems to like going with Cam.

Playing Catch and Reading

Ian plays catch with Bunta while Cam reads old Garfield comics with Uncle Nick.

Playing on the Floor

A few old toys were discovered while hunting around in Grammie and Grampa's attic. Here, Ian plays with a 25-year-old Casio keyboard (which worked fine once it got new batteries), while his Dad pretends to help him build a castle with some Castillos bricks, which hadn't seen the light of day in nearly as long.

Boys in the Pool

This year, Grammie and Grampa put the inflatable wading pool up on the deck, reducing the grass and dirt that made it into the water. Here, Ian splashes about as Cam "swims laps."

Ian Meets Danny

Out 10-hour projected trip from DC to Maine was more like 15 hours, thanks to the George Washington Bridge in New York and the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut. When we arrived at 11:00 PM, all the boys were asleep (thank goodness!), so Ian didn't get to meet Danny -- "Daniel Patrick," as he insists on calling him -- until this morning.

Bedtime at the Hyatt

This is how our day ended . . . a couple of hours later than it really should have, as, despite being exhausted after walking around DC all day, these two refused to fall asleep.
