Another Tooth!

Just as I finished uploading pics from camp, Cam stumbled in from the other room, holding a tooth and looking a bit frazzled. This one bled a bit more than the first, which upset Cam quite a bit, but he soon recovered enough to smile for this and is looking forward to tonight's visit from the Tooth Fairy!

Smudge in the Fire Ring

On our last night, we had a nice fire and burned some of the detritus produced while building the camp's deck and putting on its siding.

Moosehead Sunset

Last night (Monday) was our last night at camp. Today (Tuesday) we returned to Kennebunk (after stopping to shop in Freeport).

Moosehead Sunrise

This was Monday, probably the nicest day we had of the six.

Can you see the deer?

On Sunday night, we took the boys on a "moose cruise" (drive on back roads to look for moose). We spent more than two hours looking, but this was as close as we got.

Pegamoose

"Pegamoose" is the name Cam gave this statue outside of Rockwood.

Legion Hall Pancake Breakfast

Sunday morning, after Auntie Sara arrived, we drove down to Greenville for the weekly pancake breakfast at the legion hall. Joanna stayed at camp with the dogs and a bad tummy.

Lunch at the Black Frog

It seems that every year we have lunch at the Black Frog in Greenville (see last July's blog entries for photos) — the food is good enough, but the view from the dockside tables makes it worth the price.

Cam & the Moose

Saturday we drove down to Greenville, and this was in one of the shops. It was the closest we got to a moose until this morning, when we saw one after we'd left camp.

View from the Deck

This was one of the rainy days. Fortunately, we could spend much of these out on the large covered deck.

Picking Lobsters

Getting all the meat out of eight lobsters takes quite a while. Joanna helped as much as she could but ended the day injured and smelling of lobster stink.

Cam's Lobster

Moosehead is a long way from the coast, but every Friday live lobsters are available in Rockwood, so while Grampa and Dad were away picking up the new kitchen cabinets, Grammie and Mom took Cam and Ian to buy lobsters, bring them back to camp, and boil them. Cam ate some of it and claimed to like it, but Ian took one bite, made a face, and refused to have any more.

Diving In

As far as I'm concerned, this is the only way to enter the water at Moosehead — the slow method of inching in just prolongs the pain. BTW, Luci refused to jump in from the dock, no matter how many times I tried to encourage her.

"Rockwood Home Depot"

Also known as the town dump. This time we came away with a small hot water heater that's destined to become a wood-fired smoker.

Paddling in the Lake

The boys spent as much time by or in the water as we would let them. Ian never really made it in past his knees, but Cam got all the way in several times and stayed in long enough for his lips to turn purple and his teeth to start chattering.

Breakfast with Grammie & Luci

For whatever reason, powdered donuts seem to taste better at camp.

Male Initiation Ceremony

Before we went up to Moosehead on Wednesday, Rob and his elder son Taka stopped by. During their visit, they taught Cam some sort of ritual involving made up words and hand gestures, like something out of summer camp.
