Cam Playing

Since we arrived Sunday evening, Cam has spent much of his time in the driveway, running around and playing with sticks.

Ian Watering Grammie's Plants

In the end, he probably got more water on the deck walls and on himself than on the plants.

Destroying the Sandcastle

As the tide came in, it became evident that our sandcastle wouldn't last, so the boys took great pleasure in knocking down the walls before the waves could.

Finishing the Sandcastle

I think it had been more than 20 years since the last time I made a "drip castle" -- drops of very wet sand make the castle look a bit like it's made of melted wax.

Starting the Sandcastle

Actually, it started as just a hole, but then we got creative with the excavated sand.

She's in the water!

This is as deep as she made it in the 90 minutes or so we were at the beach, but given that she hardly touched the water last summer or at Calgary Bay a few weeks back....

Joanna, Cam, & Ian at Gooch's Beach, Kennebunk

I "forgot" to take the camera to last night's Stevenson presentation at the library, so this is our first pic from Maine. Grammie & Grampa went up to Moosehead this morning, and we stayed behind to go to the beach and visit a friend.

Tea at the Queen Eleanor

Friday, 17 July
We made a party of eight again for dinner tonight and had a very good meal at the Queen Eleanor before returning to Nan's for coffee and tea (and, for the boys, chocolate). Now back to the hotel to pack for an early day tomorrow. (No wakeup calls, but the night porter will knock at 4:00 AM.)

Stonehenge

Friday, 17 July
Two hours' drive from Northampton, twenty minutes in line for tickets, and then the skies opened. The traffic on the way back was miserable, meaning it took nearly four hours to get back to Northampton. Still, we can at least say we've been to see the stones.

Innkeeper's Lodge, Northampton

Thursday, 16 July
Again, compared to the Hawes Inn, it felt a bit claustrophobic (especially with so little space between the bed and the fold-out sofa), but it was clean and comfy, and the morning breakfast has been great.

Watering Great Nan's Flowers

Thursday, 16 July
After a delicious dinner of Chinese -- including excellent curries -- Ian wanted to help Great Nan water her plants in the back garden.

Ride Back to Northampton

Thursday, 16 July
Ian tried valiantly to stay awake on the return trip but failed. Cam, on the other hand, stayed wide awake.

Waterchute

Thursday, 16 July
This is the oldest ride at Wicksteed, dating from the 1920s. Cam wasn't keen on going and tried to dissuade Ian but failed. When asked afterwards whether he'd liked the ride, Ian's simple answer was "No."

Olde Timey Cars

Thursday, 16 July
A thought came to me on this: Cam and/or Ian driving.

Feeding the Ducks

Thursday, 16 July
They didn't have any breadcrumbs, so they used the pointy ends of their ice cream cones.

Cam & Ian on the Spinning Teeter-totter

This was a favorite, particularly for Cam.

Cam on the "Big" Slide

Thursday, 16 July
Three years ago, this highest of three slides seemed really high. Today, having conquered the "Dragon Slide" at Weaverville Primary, Cam had no trouble with Wicksteed's "big" slide.

Nan on the Carousel

Thursday, 16 July
We spent today at Wicksteed Park and had a very enjoyable time of it.

Seated 'round the Outdoor Table

Wednesday, 15 July
It varied between sun and clouds all afternoon, with a few brief sprinkles, but it got really quite sunny before we left.
