Early Morning Raven
Moosehead Sunrise
Taken at about 5:30 this morning.
Grampa & Cam
Walking the Loop
Tuesday morning, Grammie and Grampa took the four of us and Luci on "the loop," a three-mile walk past several other camps.
Pub Sign
This is where we had lunch. I just like the sign — several harsh winters have given it extra character.
What's she thinking...?
I think it's something along the lines of "Put that f***ing camera down."
Luchtime Beverages
One of us chose an appropriate beverage to go with lunch . . . and Joanna chose an Amstel Light.
Lunch on the Waterside
This was the view from our table.
Downtown Greenville
Monday, Joanna and I went out for lunch in Greenville, the largest town on the lake (pop. 1623).
Bunny
Our next sighting wasn't quite as exotic.
Moose
It was nearly an hour before we spotted another animal, but it was a big one.
Fox
Sunday evening, Joanna and I took the boys out for a drive to look for wildlife. This fox was the first critter we encountered.
"A big 'tone!"
Oh, he got quite a bit grubbier than this — you should have seen the ring he left in the tub that night.
Cam in the Water
Reading on the Dock
Joanna spent much of her time at camp reading — she finished four books in the six days we were there.
Painting Rocks
Meanwhile, Cam was "painting rocks" — using his watershoes to slosh water on the larger stones.
Throwing Rocks
When he wasn't fishing on the deck, Ian was throwing rocks into the water.
Boys & Luci
It looks like Luci is watching a DVD with the boys. Actually, she's hunting Blue, the stuffed toy in Ian's left hand.
Mount Kineo
Mount Kineo sits on a peninsula in the middle of Moosehead Lake. These 700-foot cliffs on the east side rise straight up from the water, with the deepest point in the lake, 250 feet, almost directly below them.
Ian at the Picnic Table
Patting Luci
Lake View
Baker Brook Cove, seen from the deck of the camp.
Trail Washout
Unfortunately, we didn't make it all the way to Jackman. A beaver had built a dam on the stream that ran alongside the trail, making it impassible.
Does a bear...?
Yes. Yes, it does.
Back-country Road in the Great North Woods
The nearest paved road is about 30 miles away.
